The new editor of the Kent and Sussex Courier is returning home for his new appointment – Giles Broadbent is Tonbridge-born and began his career with Courier Newspapers as a trainee reporter.
He has spent his time in-between in the regional press and has re-joined the company following two years with London’s Metro newspaper.
He said of his appointment: “This is a tremendous honour and an enormous challenge.
“The readership of the Courier deserves a significant weekly newspaper and, with a dedicated and enthusiastic team of professionals already in place, I intend to offer an entertaining and satisfying read every Friday.”
After leaving the Courier in 1988 Giles moved to the Liverpool Echo before moving to Birmingham for a re-launch of the Birmingham Post.
He then moved to The News in Portsmouth to lead its redesign team, with the change from broadsheet to tabloid winning a string of industry accolades.
He said: “I have spent most of my career on local and regional papers.
“They have a vital role to play, binding a community and championing its causes.”
He replaces editor Martin Oxley, who left to develop a family training and PR business.
