Martin Freeman, a reporter on the Evening Herald spent a day as Plymouth’s newest City Centre Representative.

The scheme, funded by Government Single Regeneration Budget and Employment Zone cash, is designed to help long-term unemployed people back into work.

Wearing a weatherproof uniform, the reps are friendly faces in the city helping local people, visitors and businesses.

Equipped with a first aid kit, a walkie-talkie and a bulging fact file, Martin was accompanied by an experienced rep and sorted out directions, information and advice for several people.

Sadly, the future of the scheme is uncertain as funding is due to run out at the end of March.
