Law update announced

A law update for editors and newspaper executives is to be hosted by the National Council for the Training of Journalists in the autumn.

The event, in London, will be conducted by Essential law for Journalists editor Walter Greenwood and the night lawyer for a host of national papers, Stuart Patrick.

The programme will cover:

  • Libel: Identifying and assessing potential libels and understanding what the defences really mean, as well as passing on some self-protection procedures;
  • Contempt of Court: How journalists can get into trouble;
  • Crime and courts: Court reporting after the Human Rights Act, anti-social behaviour order juveniles and restrictions surrounding the Youth Justice & Criminal Evidence Act.

    Booking details and prices for the event, on November 16, can be obtained from the NCTJ by calling 01279 430009.
