Kreibich's collection of Richmond memories raises charity funds

Former Matlock Mercury editor and journalism lecturer Gerry Kreibich has raised more than £200 for charity after putting together a booklet of journalism students’ nostalgia.

Far-off Days at Richmond College included memoirs written by more than 50 Sheffield journalism students of the 1970s and 1980s.

The booklet was published last year as a charity fund-raiser, and made a profit of £220.

A cheque has now been sent to Father Andrew Campbell in Ghana, who is using the money to bring Christmas cheer to cured lepers who live in dismal conditions in a settlement that he visits regularly.

Gerry, who ran the NCTJ courses at Sheffield for ten years, sold 130 copies of Far-off Days at Richmond College.

Many were bought by those who contributed the reminiscences and the rest were sold to former lecturers and others connected with the former Richmond/Stradbroke centre.

Gerry said: “The booklet is a bit of history now as the college itself has been completely demolished.”
