Key speakers address Newsquest conference

More than 100 senior Newsquest staff are attending this year’s Newsquest Editorial Conference & Awards at the Moat House Hotel, Stratford-Upon-Avon.

The two-day event kicked off yesterday with an awards dinner where the cream of Newsquest journalism was honoured.

It was followed by a full day of conference sessions with subjects tackled ranging from developing the readers of tomorrow to the fight against secrecy and the question of style and substance in its titles.

Speakers include Lord Justice Judge, the senior presiding judge for England and Wales and the judge in charge of press issues; David Hoath, marketing director of the Newspaper Society, and Peter Sands, director of the editorial centre in Hastings.

This year’s conference has been organised by an eight-strong committee chaired by Liz Griffin, editor of the Hereford Times. The major sponsors are Agfa, BT, Goss and Printing Techniques.

The conference has its own dedicated website at www.edcon2002.co.uk, which will contain full updates from the awards as well as pictures from the two days.
