Kate's nippon off

Bristol Evening Post reporter Kate Hinder is leaving the land of the rising circulation to make a new home in the land of the Rising Sun.

The 29-year-old Swindon-born education correspondent is Nippon off to Japan to teach English for a year or two.

Cosmopolitan Kate said: “I am sure one day I will return to journalism, but the JET scheme is a great way to experience a new culture – and get paid!

“I have had a fantastic time in Bristol and will be leaving a lot of friends behind.”

Kate started her newspaper career at the Lincolnshire Echo in 1996 before moving to Bristol two years later.

Evening Post Editor Mike Lowe said: “Kate has added a new dimension to our education reporting since she joined. She will be sorely missed.

“We just hope she is still in Japan by Summer 2002 – then we can all pop over for the World Cup.”

During her time at the Evening Post, Kate broke a string of exclusives surrounding the Chris Woodhead affair including revelations he had an affair with a former pupil.
