Jowell lined up as key speaker

Tessa Jowell, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, is to address the Society of Editors’ annual conference later this month.

She will speak at the final working session on October 23 after the society’s AGM.

She is one of more than 20 top name speakers from inside and outside the media who will contribute to the conference.

The first formal session will open at Stormont where former Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee of All the President’s Men fame will deliver his lecture.

The dinner will be a gala event for the media in Northern Ireland with 300 or more diners expected from the UK mainland.

The evening is supported by the Northern Ireland Development Board, The Northern Ireland Tourist Board and Guinness, as well as president Ed Curran’s Belfast Telegraph.

Other conference sponsors will include British Gas, PR newswire, PA News and Tera UK. BBC Northern Ireland will host a buffet lunch at their offices on the second day.
