Journalist agrees settlement in sex discrimination case

A senior journalist, who was sacked from the Eastern Daily Press, has accepted an offer from the newspaper ahead of an employment tribunal.

HoldTheFrontPage reported in April how Caroline Culot (31) had worked for the Norwich-based newspaper for seven years until she was sacked in 1997. She won the right to pursue a claim for sex discrimination after telling a pre-hearing that she had been too ill after the birth of her son in January 1998 to return to work full-time.

She was offered three casual shifts a week after telling editor Peter Franzen that she could only do part-time work. When a full-time replacement was found, Mrs Culot lost her job.

Her lawyer and Mr Franzen confirmed that an amicable settlement had been reached.
