The North Devon Journal is offering youngsters affected by the troubles of the foot-and-mouth crisis a tonic, by throwing a party.

The newspaper is laying on a free ‘Grand Day Out’ together with The Big Sheep animal centre and Let’s Go Superbowl ten-pin bowling alley.

While The Big Sheep at Abottsham is entertaining the three to 11-year-olds, the bowling alley in Barnstaple will do likewise for the 11-16 year-olds.

The big day is set for Sunday, September 9, and the Journal’s Managing Editor, Andy Cooper, believes it is fully deserved.

He said: “Everyone knows that the foot and mouth crisis – which is still by no means over for many families – has had a profound affect on many children and young people in the region.

“In many ways they are the forgotten victims of the crisis and yet they have suffered greatly through what they have seen or experienced.

“Our aim with the with our Grand Day Out is to give a special rewards to those young people who parents or guardians feel they deserve a treat after all they have been through in the last few months.”
