Journal team make a splash

Staff at the Lowestoft Journal helped boost fundraising efforts for a new community football centre in the town when they donned their trunks to take part in a swimathon.

Editor Russell Cook teamed up with the paper’s field sales representatives Jason Croft and Steve Philip, and together they took on a challenge to swim against local radio station rivals 103.4 The Beach.

The two teams each had to complete a relay of 30 lengths, and the Journal team took to the challenge like ducks to water – claiming victory when the other team failed to complete the course.

The Journal’s challenge was part of a swimathon organised by Denes High School, aimed at raising the final £20,000 needed to build a new community football centre.

The school had already secured £428,000 from the Football Association, and the new football centre will be built in the school’s grounds, providing it and other schools with a floodlit, state of the art third generation pitch and facilities currently only available to Premiership clubs.
