Journal staff from 1980s and 1990s sought for reunion

Former Oxford Journal staff who worked on the newspaper in the 1980s and 1990s are being invited to a reunion later this month.

Organisers have so far tracked down around 20 former staffers who will attend the event, and are now looking for more ex-colleagues to join them.

Denise Barkley, who worked as a sub-editor on the Journal from 1987 to 1992, said anyone who had worked at the paper’s offices in Eynsham in Oxfordshire was welcome.

Now deputy magazines editor for Newsquest Oxfordshire, she is organising the reunion along with former Journal photographer Georgina Ashwin and ex-advertising features writer Natasha Hall.

Denise said: “A few of us are still around the Witney area and said how good it would be to try and find people we used to work with.

“There was a huge newsroom at the Oxford Journal in those days. Everybody knew everybody.

“It was a massively successful free paper and it’s nice that we all still think of it in fond terms.”

The reunion will be held at The Fleece Hotel, Church Green, Witney, on June 23, from 7pm.
