Jack Straw praises crime feature

A crimebusting column in a weekly Norfolk newspaper has come in for praise from Home secretary Jack Straw.

The Lynn News launched the Crimebusters column last year – and it has already prompted a number of calls to the police from people keen to clear up crimes.

In a letter to North West Norfolk MP Dr George Turner, Mr Straw said: “This is a positive step forward and I was particularly pleased to note that it has been brought forward with the Safer West Norfolk Steering Group.”

The paper launched the column in conjuction with Lynn police. It features a handful of crimes in a regular position each week and offers rewards of up to £500 for information which leads to an arrest.

Lynn News editor Malcolm Powell said: “The police approached us about starting Crimebusters and anything that can make West Norfolk a safer and better place to live has the Lynn News’ complete backing.”
