Herald prints every name

The Tamworth Herald has received a huge response to its decision to print the names of every soldier from the district who died in the two world wars.

It was the first time the paper had carried the information on fallen heroes.

The Herald this week carried a photo of assistant editor John Harper presenting a copy of the list to the Royal British Legion, which put up the list as a backdrop to poppy sales in the run-up to Remembrance Day.

The paper said: “Volunteers received positive feedback about the list from the public, and it also formed an important part of the traditional two minutes’ silence as the ex-servicemen saluted the names of their fallen comrades.”

The newspaper office also received positive comments and inquiries about the list as soon as it was published.
