Happy Birthday HoldtheFrontPage

HoldtheFrontPage is five years old today.

From being the new kid on the block back in 2000, this website has grown to become a major player in bringing news and job opportunities to journalists in the regional press.

During that time we have written about 722 different local newspapers – evening papers, mornings, Sundays, weeklies, and free weeklies.

In the past 12 months alone we have carried 1,090 job adverts for journalists, whether they want to enter the profession as a junior, take the top job as a newspaper editor or leave the industry to go into broadcasting, press office work or public relations.

HoldtheFrontPage was launched by the electronic publishing department at the Derby Evening Telegraph under its then editor Keith Perch.

Launch editors Elaine Pritchard and Pete Pheasant ensured the site had a sound start, marketing it to people in the regional press and generating a variety of news, information and feature stories, as well as putting together a series of resources to help working journalists.

The fact that we now enjoy around 2m page views each month is testimony to the loyalty of our readers, many of whom have been with us from the start.

The newspaper industry also appreciates our work, giving HoldtheFrontPage three major awards in the past three years.

With the help and support of our readers and advertisers we aim to continue our tradition of providing news, opportunities for readers and ideas for journalists for the next five years … and beyond.

Thank you for that support.
