Hacks have fun on the green at Press Club golf day

A day out on the greens for a group of Midlands journalists has helped to raise more than £3,000 for charity.

Birmingham Press Club held its inaugural golf day at Blackwell Golf Club to raise money for city-based charity Get-a-Head.

Seventeen teams joined in the fun, and £3,300 was raised to help support people suffering from diseases of the head and neck.

  • John James, Peter Abel, corporate director of Barclays Bank, John Lamb and Andy Skinner
  • Press Club chairman John Lamb said: “Congratulations to all concerned for what turned out to be a fantastic day both for the participating golfers and for Get-a-Head.

“We are already taking bookings for next year’s event to be held in September.”

The event was organised by press club director Tony Flanagan and Andy Skinner from PR company ASAP, and was held in conjunction with Barclays Bank.

John James, chairman of Get-a-Head, said: “Our aim is to raise money to help those who suffer from cancer and other diseases of the head and neck via research, education and the purchase of vital equipment.

“As a former chairman of the Birmingham Press Club I am delighted to see the club in such fine fettle and on behalf of Get-a-Head thank Tony Flanagan and Andy Skinner for all their hard work in pulling together what was a superb day for all concerned.”
