Rod Sibbald, a former picture editor of The Independent, who has run his own consultancy in recent years, has been appointed group picture editor for The Herald, Sunday Herald and Evening Times.

Over the last five years, Mr Sibbald has helped a number of newspapers and media clients with technology issues. This year he was called in by the Aberdeen Press & Journal and Evening Express to help their photographers get to grips with using the digital Nikon D1 cameras.

He also worked with the launch team of the Sunday Herald.

His new job will involve his restructuring the picture departments of the three titles – owned by the Scottish Media Group, into one service.
