Globe investigation reviewed by Home Office

An investigation into the availability of a harmful legal drug by the Wirral Globe has been passed to the Home Office for a forthcoming review.

Following the death of Bebington resident Ian Hignett, who took Gamma Hydroxy Butyrate (GHB), the Globe looked into how easy it is to obtain the drug.

The Globe also backed Wirral South MP Ben Chapman’s calls for the drug to be banned in the hope that further deaths could be averted.

Now the campaign looks to be making ground as Mr Chapman has sent copies of the Globe investigation to the Home Office.

Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Home Office, Bob Ainsworth, said: “The Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs has been gathering data on GHB and will be reviewing their assessment of it at a meeting in November.”
