Gazette chief reporter promoted to editor

The Glenrothes Gazette has appointed a new editor in the shape of its former chief reporter, Brian Stormont.

Brian, (30), has been acting editor at the Gazette since Iain Muirhead left to join the East Fife Mail in June, and has now officially been installed in the role.

Brian said: “I’m delighted to be given the chance to edit the Gazette, which has a great reputation for in-depth news and strong campaigning.

“As its former chief reporter I know the paper well and hope to continue Iain’s good work.”

Brian began his career as reporter on the Arbroath Herald and Carnoustie Guide & Gazette in 1989, undertaking a three-and-a-half year apprenticeship.

While at the papers he was primarily responsible for sport, covering Arbroath Football Club and junior teams as well as doing some news reporting.

He joined the Glenrothes Gazette 18 months ago as chief reporter.

Brian said: “I’m excited about the future.

“We’re planning to develop the lifestyle and leisure section of the paper. Glenrothes has a concert hall and events centre where there are a lot of good bands and performers and we are going to tap into that.

“I’m sure readers will enjoy it – and our readers are definitely not slow to tell us what they like and what they don’t like.

“I’m very proud to be editor. I’ve always wanted to edit a title and am delighted to have been given the opportunity so early in my career.”
