A cycle track project to get teenagers off the streets has been boosted with a £1,100 grant from Newsquest’s charity arm, the Gannett Foundation.

The money will help build a BMX track for youngsters at Speen, which is in the circulation area of the Bucks Free Press.

The playing field committee in charge of the project expect it to be finished by the autumn.

All applications for grants from the Gannett Foundation are made through the local newspapers. Each paper establishes its own priorities depending on local needs and following guidelines laid down by the Gannett Foundation.

The foundation supports projects which take a creative approach to fundamental issues such as education and neighbourhood improvements, youth development, cultural enrichment, and support for disadvantaged people.

Priority is given to community organisations for equipment or running costs of projects for homeless people, after-school activities for disadvantaged children, youth organisations and community safety initiatives.

The Gannett Foundation is sponsored entirely by Newsquest’s parent company, Gannett Co. Inc.
