Four-week look at North Devon tourism

Readers of the North Devon Journal are to be asked about the future of tourism in their area as the paper opens up a wide-ranging debate into the issues.

Tourism is a vital part of the region’s economic future and a four-week series is to examine it in depth.

Businesses, politicians and leading local figures will be featured in Tourism 2000, along with an insight into the consumer’s point of view.

New strategies for the 21st century, past tourism initiatives and the approach for the future will all come under the microscope.

The paper said: “As the series develops, we will also be asking Journal readers for their views on this key issue, in the hope that it stimulates a wider debate among those who have the power to influence the future.

Tourism 2000 promises to be a fascinating look at an issue which touches everyone in North Devon.”

Writer Martin Hesp will be taking the in-depth look at the industry during the series, investigating the unique selling points of north Devon and how the area’s attractions are to survive.

He will be examining if visitor numbers up or down, where people come from and what the authorities – at local and national level – doing to help the industry.
