Forty years for loyal David

A Derbyshire journalist is celebrating 40 years at the same paper this week.

David Hopkinson, 58, joined the Derbyshire Times as a trainee in May 1961 – and has stayed loyal to the paper ever since.

For most of his career he has been based at the Alfreton district office where he now edits the Alfreton and Ripley Echo.

Of his time at the paper, David said: “We often deal with people who are bereaved and distressed, and it is good to know that in some small way we can help them by sharing in their grief.

“Working for so long in a small market town, you get to know everyone and become part of the community.”

Now his son, Tim, is following in his father’s footsteps by working as a reporter on the Derbyshire Times.
