Former reporter dies 23 years after tragic injury

Ivor Curnock, a former journalist with the South Wales Evening Post, has died at the age of 59.

He had worked at the paper for four years, joining in 1975, and was responsible for local government coverage, which included his weekly column Town Hall Talking Point.

However his career was cut short when he suffered brain damage during an operation to cure a tumour.

His illness left him unable to walk, talk or feed himself and it took several years of determined effort to enable him to walk a little and feed himself again.

He had been cared for at Singleton Hospital and St Mark’s Court Nursing Home for the last six months after successive strokes left him bed-bound.

His funeral will take place at Swansea Crematorium on Monday at noon.
