Former Evening Post chief photographer dies

Former South Wales Evening Post chief photographer Len Pitson has died aged 68, after a three-and-a-half year battle with stomach cancer.

Mr Pitson worked at the Evening Post for 45 years, starting as a trainee photographer in 1948 and retiring as chief photographer in 1993.

He had been a supporter of the Evening Post’s Cancer Appeal in recent years and in June he launched an appeal in aid of the chemotherapy unit at Singleton Hospital in Swansea, where he had been treated.

An auction of items donated by celebrities including Hollywood actress Catherine Zeta Jones, comedienne Faith Brown and singer Bonnie Tyler, which Len organised in aid of the appeal, raised more than £10,000.

Mr Pitson leaves a wife, Phyl, and sons Gary and Chris.
