Former Courier editor dies at 78

A former editor of The Courier in Dundee has died aged 78.

Iain Stewart worked at the newspaper for more than 40 years, retiring as editor in 1993.

He had joined The Courier in 1949, starting out as a reporter and sub-editor after first working on weekly title The Oban Times.

In 1953 he was promoted to news editor and later became assistant editor.

He took over as editor in 1978, holding the post for 15 years.

During that time he oversaw a move to new purpose-built offices, the introduction of computers and the demise of adverts on the front page.
