Former Chronicle girl is contest finalist

A journalist who started her career at the Bath Chronicle is one of eight shortlisted finalists in a news contest that attracted 11,000 entries.

Imogen Sellers is now at HTV, the ITV network for the Bristol, Bath and south-west area, where she produces the morning news bulletins.

She has been shortlisted for the BBC Talent search in the Network News category and was featured in the Chronicle as one of their success stories.

Imogen used to be Chronicle crime reporter before moving to Bath FM when the city’s first radio station was launched. She took to life “on air” and made the move to HTV.

Despite the 4am wake-up call and 5am starts she told the Chronicle she loved her job as a reporter – whether it was in local newspapers, radio or television.

She told readers: “The story that will always stick in my mind from working at the Chronicle was Melanie Hall.”

Melanie was a young Bath woman who disppeared and was never found.

“It was a very distressing story but I got to know the detectives and Melanie’s family really well over the two or three years I covered it.”

BBC Talent is searching for up to 40 people who can show flair in sitcom writing, stand-up comedy, TV presenting and programme-making.

Winners will be offered contracts with different parts of the corporation from BBC News to Radio 1.
