Fitness challenge for features editor

A local radio DJ has thrown down the gauntlet to Aberdeen Evening Express features editor Scott Begbie.

Gary Stein, of NorthSound 1, and Mr Begbie are to get a fitness test at the gym of Ardoe House Hotel. Two months of frenzied gym activity will follow, and at a second fitness test in eight weeks’ time, whoever has improved the most will be declared the winner.

The prize at stake is a luxury weekend break at a Macdonald hotel anywhere in the UK.

Mr Begbie confidently told readers of his regular column that WHEN he wins, the weekend will be auctioned for the Evening Express’s Children 2000 charity.

Mr Begbie (39) said: “I reckon my real nemesis here may not be Mr Stein. It might just be Scott Cassie the Ardoe House’s trainer. He had rather too bright a gleam in his eye when we talked about making sure we kept with his programme.

” ‘I’ll push you’, he said, in a casual throwaway manner that suggested blood, sweat and tears…all of it mine.”

Mr Begbie joined the Evening Express in 1997. He has previously worked on the Edinburgh Evening News and two Canadian newspapers – the Calgary Sun and the Ottawa Sun.
