Fifty grand bandstand

The Wetherby News is to sponsor the maiden performance at the town’s new bandstand on Sunday.

It follows the newspaper’s Give the Band a Stand appeal, which raised thousands of pounds towards the £50,000 cost of building it last year.

The town’s award winning Silver Band will be the first to take to the stage, at the first of 18 concerts taking place over the summer.

The Wetherby Weir Preservation Trust decided to build a bandstand, and the whole community rallied round to raise the money required.

The appeal was also backed by the town council and the Chamber of Trade.

And in June last year, Bill Gray and Colin Wardman from the Preservation Trust, began the work of transforming a patch of land in the wilderness car park into the bandstand.
