Evening paper's new edition for core area

The Evening Echo in Essex has launched a new edition.

From this week, the paper is producing an extra edition in Southend to add to the existing three editions for Basildon, Castle Point and Southend.

A fourth edition was scrapped a year ago in a review of distribution for the paper, which is printed by WestFerry in London’s Docklands.

Editor Martin McNeill said: “We have concentrated on making the paper more local, with a high number of change pages for each area.

“Now, with sales rising steadily, the time is right to give Southend two editions again.

“Both will be dominated by local news but the first will be printed earlier than ever while the later edition will have more on-day material.”

Newspaper Sales manager Martin Bond said: “It’s a great opportunity to get our paper into the shops earlier in our core area.

“It means we can catch the lunchtime trade at the newsagents with the first edition and still provide the most up to date news service for our dedicated home delivery customers who will get the late edition.”
