Editor walks out

Ged Henderson, editor of The Journal in Newcastle, has walked out on the newspaper.

Newcastle Chronicle and Journal Ltd has confirmed that the editor, who joined the North East newspaper three years ago, handed in his resignation earlier this week.

The reasons for Ged’s departure are as yet unclear.

When contacted by HoldtheFrontPage Ged said he did not wish to comment.

NC&J human resources director David Rowland said: “Ged Henderson, editor of The Journal, resigned this week.

“We are currently in discussions with Ged about the termination arrangements.”

David declined to comment further, but said the company would issue a more comprehensive statement once the issue was resolved.

Ged – Gerard – joined The Journal in July 2000 after previously editing The Gazette in Blackpool.

Originally from Lancaster, he has also previously worked as news editor of the Lancashire Evening Post, business correspondent of the Manchester Evening News and investigations and chief feature writer of the Liverpool Echo.

He first worked at The Journal and its sister paper, the Evening Chronicle, during the 1980s.
