Editor to face his public

Readers of the Manchester Evening News are being given the chance to quiz editor Paul Horrocks when he takes part in a live webchat.

The high-profile editor will be put on the spot during an hour-long question and answer session on the paper’s website, www.manchesteronline.co.uk, on August 7.

Paul, (49), has been the editor of the Manchester Evening News since June 1997 and is also the editor-in-chief of the Manchester Metro News.

He also plays a wider role in the newspaper industry, serving on both the Board of Directors of the UK Society of Editors and on the Press Complaints Commissions Code of Conduct Committee, and was a member of the Organising Committee for the Commonwealth Games Manchester 2002.

Readers are being invited to question Paul on any of his commitments, local news coverage, the press in general, or any more light-hearted topics they may wish to cover.

Comments and questions can be put to Paul during the hour-long live session, or they can submit their questions in advance via the paper’s website.

  • Paul will not be the first journalist from the MEN to face a grilling from its readers. Sports editor Peter Spencer faced his public in the paper’s first webchat, and reporter Martin Dillon used the interactive service to tell all when he returned from the Gulf after reporting on the conflict in Iraq.
