Echo welcomes New Year in with 12-page picture special

The Dorset Echo put together a 12-page picture special to bring in the New Year.

Reporters and photographers from the paper were out in the paper’s patch to capture the New Year’s Eve celebrations, resulting in the supplement.

And Echo trainee reporters Laura Kitching and Ian McDonald really got into the mood, joining in with Weymouth’s traditional fancy dress celebrations.

Laura dressed as a cave girl and Ian as a punk rocker as they reported the welcoming in of 2007 by thousands of revellers in the town centre.

Laura said: “You have to get dressed up for New Year. We would have felt a bit out of it if we had worn our usual clothes.”

They mixed with the likes of pirates, superheroes, penguins and even a number of Borats.

The pair, along with photographers Finnbarr Webster and Brian Jung (who both remained in civvies for the occasion) helped produce the picture special and reporter Dan Goater in Dorchester and photographer John Gurd in Bridport also contributed.
