Echo book lovers treated to literary feast

Readers of the Lincolnshire Echo will be treated to a literary feast later this month, when a week-long book festival is held in Lincoln.

The Echo has joined forces with Lincoln City Council and Lincolnshire County Council to organise the Lincoln Book Festival, where guests will include household names such as Germaine Greer, John Sergeant, Terry Yorath and John Shuttleworth.

Between May 13 and 22 more than 100 talks, signings, workshops, film screenings and comedy and theatre events will be held across the city, aimed at those who love to read and those who love to write.

And as well as meeting their favourite authors, visitors will be able to get tips on how to write crime stories, romantic fiction and chidren’s books, as well as how to write for a newspaper and get their work in print.

The event follows a successful joint initiative between the Echo and the councils last year, with all three having previously run separate book-related events in the city.

Echo editor Mike Sassi said: “It made more sense to combine the three existing events and is a good way of strengthening our relationship with the city and county councils.

“We feature a successful books page in the paper each week, which gets excellent feedback from our readers, and becoming involved in the festival seemed a logical extension of that.

“And the festival and all its related publicity is an excellent way to raise awareness of the Echo.”
