EADT gets a makeover

More pages, new content and a bright new look are the result of amake-over for the East Anglian Daily Times.

The redesign was put in place by a “modernisation team” at the Ipswichpaper.

The team was headed by deputy editor Dominic Castle and assistant editorKeith Williams.

They were briefed to produce changes which would not shock the paper’sregular readers – but would appeal to the thousands of newcomers floodinginto Suffolk and north Essex.

Editor Terry Hunt said: “They’ve done brilliantly. The new EADT has amore modern, clean look, which creates a feeling of more authority, as wellas making the paper easier to read.

“I know it’s very early days, but I have received dozens of messages frompeople who like the new-look EADT, and only two letters complaining aboutthe price increase. Early indication of sales are also encouraging. Salesrose after the price rise on a week-on-week basis.”

Changes to the paper include new fonts, to update its appearance, andbetter use of white space, also to make it more attractive.

There are on average eight extra pages a day, which have been used toallow a features section after the centre pages, including a ‘coffee breakpage’ as well as pages of TV and showbiz gossip.

New daily sections include a 20-page sports supplement on Mondays, aswell as Health on Monday, Education on Tuesday, Fashion on Wednesday,Personal Finance on Thursday, an expanded What’s On section on Friday, andShopping on Saturday. The marketing campaign has been reminding readers that despite all theadditions, nothing has been taken away from their daily read.
