Devon readers have their say

Readers of the North Devon Journal are being asked to decide on the latest big issue to hit the region – the prospect of wind farms springing up across the countryside.

The issue had opinion firmly divided as to whether they are a clean, efficient, environmentally-friendly solution to our energy problems – or if they are a blot on the landscape with over-hyped benefits.

The new poll comes after a successful survey into fox-hunting which achieved a record response from 1,759 readers, a massive number for a debate of this kind.

Again, the paper is running arguments for and against the idea and will check readers are local to the area, as well as eliminating double-voting.

Journal managing editor Andy Cooper told readers: “Wind farms are a real issue for the region and there has been plenty of debate already about the pros and cons of building them here.

“It will be interesting to see how the thousands of Journal readers feel about this issue.”
