Dedicated news editor to lead Sunday team effort

Sentinel Sunday, the Stoke-on-Trent based broadsheet launched less than two years ago, is to appoint its first dedicated news editor.

The paper, which is staffed by journalists on the Sentinel’s daily title, has won widespread praise from the industry and readers.

Sentinel editor Sean Dooley said: “The decision to staff the Sunday with Sentinel journalists has proved the right one.

“Each of these, from raw juniors to senior reporters, specialists, columnists, photographers, designers and headline writers have had a chance to push their skills to the limit and the quality has been astounding.

“We are now looking to appoint a dedicated news editor for the title. We are looking for a journalist with exacting standards and the intelligence to understand the Sunday ethos and its readership, who will get the best out of journalists and be full of ideas.”

The Sentinel Sunday won four honours at last year’s UK Press Awards – Sunday Newspaper of the Year, Production Team of the Year, Reporter of the Year and Columnist of the Year.

Its circulation is growing week on week and the final edition of 2001 was 33.3 per cent up on the same week in 2000.
