Death of Jim Smith

Former Western Mail journalist Jim Smith has died, aged 62.

He had worked for The Western Mail for more than 20 years, most of that time covering his home county of Pembrokeshire.

He started his career at the Western Telegraph as a cub reporter aged 17, and went on to work for the South Wales Evening Post before moving on to The Western Mail.

In 1976 he moved back to his home county as The Western Mail’s correspondent for Pembrokeshire and after early retirement from the Mail he worked for The Western Telegraph.

He leaves a wife Irene and two children.
