Death of former Echo writer

Tony Court, a former Exeter Express and Echo journalist, has died.

Tony, who was 67, had been living in semi-retirement on the Greek island of Symi. He died while visiting his daughter in London.

Tony joined the Echo in 1950 and after national service in the Royal Navy returned to the paper where he was chief soccer writer for many years.

In the late 1960s he left the Echo to become the first west regional public relations officer of the Automobile Association based in Bristol, a post he held for 26 years until his retirement in 1993.

He went to live on the Greek island of Symi in 1994 and launched a new local newspaper, the Symi Visitor, which he was editing right up to the time of his death.

He also launched a news agency, the Aegean News.

He leaves a partner, Jane, daughter Nikki and son Simon.
