Death of Chronicle correspondent

Michael Davis, angling correspondent for the Essex Chronicle, has died.

Better known as Mike, he had fought against heart problems for more than a year and had been in hospital for much of that time.

For many years Mike had enjoyed fishing and when he asked the Essex Chronicle why they had no regular angling column he was invited to become the paper’s correspondent, and he gladly took up the challenge.

For the last 18 months he had gathered in results and submitted his column every week, making use of the many contacts he had made over the years while fishing.

During his lifetime he also helped to raise thousands of pounds for charity as a member of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes.

He leaves a partner, Sue, and a daughter, Sarah, from his first marriage.
