Courier wins festivename game

We’ve all thought about doing it – but the Kent and Sussex Courier actually went through with it.

Not content with waiting for Christmas stories to turn up on its newsdesk, the paper has been out and made its own.

How often have we thought of trawling through the phone book to find people with festive names?

Well, tucked in among the nativity picture spreads, reviews of the year and list of Christmas church services was lurking the feature: “Not just a name, more of a sentence”.

The paper had sought out Jean Snowball, Ed Christmas, Grace Winter and Richard Snow!

As well as a short profile on each of its subjects, the paper asked them all what people thought of their seasonal surnames.

Mr Christmas told readers: “It’s a nightmare!”

Mr Snow said: “I always try to send suitable Christmas cards.”

And Miss Snowball added: “The funniest time was when my daughter was born and the duty nurse was called Judy Christmas!”
