Council listens to reader power

Market Rasen Mail readers have voted overwhelmingly to ditch stone bollards recently erected in the town centre.

The newspaper conducted a survey in response to several complaints that the new concrete bollards were unsightly and dangerous.

Out of 192 readers who sent in voting forms, only 2 people wanted the stone bollards to remain in place.

Sixty per cent of readers wanted them replaced with cast iron bollards whilst 37 per cent didn’t want any bollards at all.

The County Council say that once the matter has been approved, they will pay for cast iron bollards and pull up the existing stone blocks.

The Mayor, Cllr Sue Briggs, said: “I’m not surprised because it is what people have been saying to me.”
