Cornishman writer mourned

Ruth Dunn, a village correspondent for The Cornishman and the West Briton, has died aged 90 after almost 40 years in her role.

She always had a flair for writing and received prizes for it while still at school.

Ruth and her husband George became interested in local activities after reporting events as district correspondents to several local newspapers.

They started writing for the papers in the 1950s and after George’s death in 1967 Ruth continued in her role as Hayle correspondent for a further 25 years until retiring in her 80s.

One of her interests away from newspapers was presenting readings and stories in the Cornish dialect at events, clubs and care centres.
