The longest-serving correspondent of the Belper News has retired, after 56 years with the paper.

Betty Gray was presented with a cut glass vase and bouquet of flowers to mark her time on the Derbyshire paper.

Betty told editor Adrian Farmer: “I can remember putting in my first piece in 1954 when the Belper News was situated in the Bowling Alley – and I’ve been here ever since.”

Mr Farmer said: “Betty has been an invaluable source of news for more than half a century.

“Her commitment to the Belper News and the Duffield community has been absolute and her coverage of events has always been thorough.”
