Columnist Littlejohn to make return to his old stomping ground

Daily Mail columnist and former Birmingham Evening Mail reporter Richard Littlejohn is returning to his old stomping ground later this month, as guest of honour at a celebrity lunch held by the Birmingham Press Club.

The outspoken journalist, who began his newspaper career in Peterborough before moving to Birmingham, will appear at Wong’s restaurant in the city, appropriately located in Fleet Street, near the Jewellery Quarter.

During his time at the Evening Mail he was industrial correspondent, reporting on inflammatory industrial relations at what was then British Leyland, and the confrontations between Derek ‘Red Robbo’ Robinson and then BL chairman Michael Edwardes.

He later moved to the Evening Standard where he became a columnist and since then has had various spells at the Sun and Daily Mail.

Press Club chairman John Lamb said: “I have had the privilege of twice working with Richard, on the Evening Mail and the Standard.

“Life is never dull when he’s around and with a biting repartee and quick mind, life is never less than interesting in his company.

“We look forward to welcoming Richard to the oldest Press Club in the world and to reintroducing him to the delights of Birmingham.”

Tickets for the event can be obtained from Kay Cadman on 0121 643 8151.
