Citizen is a global hit

The Gloucester Citizen is discovering it has dedicated readers all over the world thanks to its website, thisisgloucestershire.co.uk.

The paper has heard from readers from Australia, the United States and the Outer Hebrides in recent weeks, giving their view on articles that have appeared on the website.

And a family of expatriates in Australia wrote to say The Citizen has helped them teach their children about their roots.

One said: “We used to live in Gloucestershire for 30 years, and we have now lived in Australia for the past 10 years. It is a pleasure to be able to read my local paper.

“Being able to introduce The Citizen to our children has been fantastic. The memories of home are distant in their minds, but now they can relate to all the things we talk about.”

Clare Parrack, editor of the website, said: “The number of hits we get has continually risen, and now stands at 125,000 per week.

“It is difficult to trace where our hits come from, but we get letters and emails from a number of expatriates all over the world – particularly Australia – commenting on our stories.

“It is an excellent way for people to keep in touch with Gloucestershire.”
