Chronicle cracks down on phone thefts

The Oldham Evening Chronicle has joined forces with the police to crackdown on the growing number of mobile phone thefts.

More than 700,000 handsets were stolen nationally last year, and thefts in Oldham have mirrored the national picture.

Police have now mounted an initiative to combat the robberies, and as part of that mobile phone security marking packs are being handed out free from the Chronicle’s offices and Oldham Police Station.

Each pack contains an ultra violet marker pen, a registration card, and holographic stickers to warn would-be thieves that the phone is security marked.
