Chief sub in mountain fall

A chief sub of the Daily Record remains critically ill in hospital after plunging 700ft on Ben Nevis.

Tim Harper, (38), was climbing with two friends when the accident happened near the summit.

He was airlifted to the Belford Hospital in Fort William with serious head injuries and later transferred to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow.

Early reports suggested he fell through an overhang of snow.

The Record said his friends raised the alarm on a mobile phone and eight members of Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team were brought to the scene by a helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth, Morayshire.

Everest mountaineer Sir Chris Bonington, who was spending Easter climbing Scotland’s highest peak, assisted the rescue team at the scene.

Mr Harper, from Polmont, Stirlingshire, is expected to be moved to the specialist head injury unit at Glasgow’s Southern General Hospital when he is fit to be moved.
