Charity award

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph has been presented with an award in recognition of its support for a charity.

Deafblind UK honoured the newspaper with a Deafblind Friendly Award at its annual rally.

It was for the Evening Telegraph’s coverage of theorganisation’s work, membership and deafblindness in general.

Chairman Philip Gafga (corr) said: “We rely a great deal on the media to spread awareness about us. On behalf of all our members we would like to say a very big thank you to the newspaper.”

The newspaper’s coverage of Deafblind UK this year has included a royal visit by Prince Andrew to the organisation’s headquarters, a double-page spread on its See the Deafblind Person campaign and the launch of an appeal for a new National Centre for Deafblindness.

Evening Telegraph editor Kevin Booth said: “The links between the newspaper and the charity have always been strong.

“We believe in supporting the local community and this award is recognition of our commitment to do just that.”
