Xtreme fun – thanks to the News

A popular local skate park has been saved thanks to a campaign by the Norwich Evening News.

The Xtreme Fun Park, which attracts up to 2,000 young skaters a week, was threatened with closure due to high financial demands.

Now, after the appeal gained the support of the local community including two Norwich MPs, Charles Clarke and Dr Ian Gibson, the park is able to remain open for another year.

Landlords of the park, Norwich Union, agreed to reduce the rent after over 300 people expressed their support for the cause by signing a petition produced by the Evening News.

Campaigners are now hoping the city council will follow suit and help to further improve the park’s financial status.

A spokesman for Xtreme, Mark Smith, said he was delighted following the decision.

He said: “We are hoping the landlords will at least halve the rent. They have listened to our concerns and have agreed to consider a new payments proposal.”
