Writing on the wall?

The wall must go!

It’s not a bid to open up the Eastern Bloc but a plea from the Evening Herald to get one of Plymouth’s most unsightly landmarks torn down.

The Devonport Dockyard wall has dominated the landscape for years and is being seen as a threat to local regeneration plans.

It was built after the disruption caused by the devastating Blitz of the Second World War to improve security around the famous naval base.

But it has no real use now and even the Navy wants to remove the 12ft feature.

The Evening Herald has now launched the campaign to remove the section of wall that runs the length of Chapel Street, Granby Way and Duke Street.

The local community needs the land inside the perimeter, which would be used to help regenerate the area.
