WMN supports campaign to save healthy animals

The Western Morning News is supporting a campaign by TV personality Noel Edmonds to change the Ministry of Agriculture’s “aggressive” culling policy over foot and mouth.

The Heart of Devon campaign calls for the end to the unnecessary cull of healthy animals.

To help raise awareness of the campaign, the paper has published posters, which feature former Home Guard member Percy Adams, his granddaughter Louise Alger and a cull-threatened sheep called Holly, and has distributed them with copies of the newspaper.

Since the Heart of Devon campaign was launched by Noel Edmonds last week, calls of support have poured in to the WMN.

Mr Edmonds said he had been moved by many of the stories he had been told and had been struck by the extent of the animal suffering as well as the human tragedy of the foot and mouth crisis.

He said: “The animal cruelty has been appalling. We should be attacked on the world stage for what has gone on.”
